Thermal printers work on the principle that a semiconductor heating element is installed on the printing head. After the printing head is heated and touches the thermal printing paper, then the desired pattern can be printed. The principle is similar to thermal fax machine.The picture is created by heating it, creating a chemical reaction in it.This thermal printer chemical reaction is carried out at a certain temperature.High temperatures will speed up this chemical reaction. When the temperature is below 60℃, it takes a long time, even up to several years, for the paper to turn dark. But at 200℃, the reaction takes place in a few microseconds.
Thermal printers selectively heat the paper at a certain position, thus producing the corresponding figure.Heating is provided by a small electronic heater on the print head that is in contact with the heat-sensitive material.The arrangement of the heater as a square dot or strip is controlled logically by the printer, when driven, produces a graph on the thermal paper corresponding to the heating element. The same logic circuit that controls the heating element also controls the feed,so prints the figure on the entire label or paper.
The most common thermal printers use a stationary print head with a heated lattice with 320 square points, each 0.25mm×0.25mm.With this lattice, the printer can place the print point anywhere on the thermal paper.This technique is already used in paper and label printers.
